Conventional medicine wasn't working for me - I had been taking meds for years, and they helped by masking the symptoms, but never fixed the route causes.

I went up to the retreat for a weekend workshop on stress and anxiety as well as to understand the fountainhead method.

The best money I have ever spent - it changed my life! Good facilities in a retreat style environment. The staff were all first rate and very helpful. I lost 16kg in 3 weeks with the good food, exercise and de-stressing. I would recommend this to anyone considering it.

I loved the accomodation, the setting, (beautiful tropical mountain setting), the food (it was exceptional at the time), and I loved the theory I received over 2 days at the weekend 'intensive'.

This workshop was a real eye opener. The fountainhead method allowed me to go deep in your thoughts and helped you find and understand the causes of stress, anxiety and depression.

Like with anything in life, what you get out of the Fountainhead experience is equal to what you put in. Practicing the 'method' including journaling is vital, as is sustaining the practise when you return home.

Unexpectedly for me, I also loved the physical activity including outdoor jogging/exercise track, outdoor gym next to the steam room, therapeutic salt pool and regular swimming pool, plus local rainforest walks.

I found Fountainhead retreat on a google search for 'suicide help' (or similar), so we rang them for more info. It seemed very expensive, but they were confident of a positive outcome. It sounded great but we had just finished renovating our house, so we didn't have the money.

I don't think I have ever come across an organsiation that is as badly run as Fountainhead. For a start, the grounds and facilities at this so called "retreat" are extremely badly maintained; over-run with weeds, black mould growing in the pools, cheap furniture that has seen better days, cockroaches in the dining hall...I could go on. It is clear that this is a business that cares about one thing only - cashing in on other people's suffering. They have a good sales pitch to rope in people seeking help....and that's it. The so called "program" itself leaves more than a lot to be desired. There is almost nothing to do during the day and the retreat staff all go home at 7pm and you are expected to go to bed! Oh but they give you a usb drive with hundreds of illegally downloaded movies on it and that is supposed to shut you up. And this is a health retreat? The staff are mostly friendly and nice but the manager of this facility has seemingly never had a role dealing with people before and seems to think that her job is to be as horrible as possible! I am shocked that this place is still running. It should be shut down. I am devastated that I wasted my money on this experience and urge others to find a better option.

The rest is history, as is my depression, and now I am on a mission to help others in a similar way (search DeFunkMe).

I have just completed a 24 day stay at Fountainhead Retreat in October 2015 after being diagnosed as suffering PTSD earlier in the same year. I can say with certainty that the experience has definitely changed my life forever! The accommodation was beautiful (I stayed in the Casablanca, Neds Shed and Starlight Cabins) and the food unbelievable. The staff are all wonderful and extremely passionate about helping you to help yourself progress. I found the method to be very easy to learn and has helped me in such a significant way in my return to normal life. I am now free of all medications, and have not suffered symptoms in weeks (having only left recently). I am certain I will continue like this. This experience has taught me the importance of a good diet and exercise and so many other tools that I can apply when life's challenges arise. I loved food school and the regular massages and mini-facials weren't so bad either! Dom, the resident PT, is a dream to work with and has given me a new found appreciation for many types of exercises I would never have considered trying prior to my stay. Bridget, my life-coach, is truly an asset to Fountainhead and is a big part of the person I am today. I will be forever grateful for my experience at Fountainhead and would recommend anyone who is struggling in this life to make the investment in themselves. I know I will never regret it.

People stay for a variety of lengths of time, some for a couple of months.

It is a non-punitive and self-worth enhancing model.

I cannot explain this amazing experience without an essay on it, but this retreat and the method is a real life changing experience.

The staff obviously change over time and I had better rapport with some than with others, which is natural.

My wife and I researched all sorts of other 'conventional' clinics and felt as though they were just going to bang us back on the meds. Been there, done that, didn't work. Our gut feeling was to go to Fountainhead, but our wallet said no. So we came clean with my father about the depression and asked him for the money, thankfully he agreed.

Fountainhead is expensive but the staff numbers and facilities justify the expense. I wish the government would follow such a model in the public health system to help people with issues such as anxiety, depression and substance abuse.
